Early daysThe seed of the idea which was to become Made in Sligo was planted in January 2009 when a number of like minded crafts people came together with the common aim of promoting themselves collectively and putting Sligo firmly on the map for top quality locally made crafts. At the core of the concept was the notion of welcoming the visiting public to their studios and workshops to see real craft in action.
With the help of the local agencies including The Sligo Enterprise Board, Sligo Leader and Sligo Tourism, a strategy was put in place and the invitation was sent out for crafts people of all disciplines to apply for membership of the new Made in Sligo group.
In November 2010, on the back of recent promotions at the Sligo Culture Night Festival and other such events, Made in Sligo officially launched with a 3 day exhibition and pop up shop in Johnston’s Court in the heart of Sligo town. The event promoted Made in Sligo’s new website, brochure & gift voucher, all of which worked to promote the new Made in Sligo craft trail. The official opening was performed by Senator David Norris in front of an enthusiastic crowd and was a huge success.
